Returning to our stage on January 27 after rave reviews last season were Karen Cromar, Glen Bowser and Dan Gallant, the exceptionally talented Hudson-based trio known collectively as “Nightshift.” Their versatility, eclectic repertoire of popular songs – new and old – and rich harmonies were unbelievable! They are regular performers at The Willow Inn in Hudson, The Calistoga Grill on the West Island and L’Ouragan in Montreal.

As always, admission was free of charge, and a freewill offering was taken for refreshments. It was a full house despite the nasty weather outside…

Coffee House Schedule for 2012

Some 40 people–kids, parents, grandparents and friends–enjoyed a warm meal on a cold Friday night, Jan. 13, 2012.  Having braved the heavily falling snow to get there, everyone enjoyed a delicious homemade meal of hotdogs and toppings, carrots and celery with dip, and cookies for dessert. Popcorn was served during the showing of The Jungle Book on the big screen in the church hall. Some of the older kids, however, decided to pass on the film, building snow quinzees on the church lawn instead!

F4 (Food, Fun and a Film with your Family) is a monthly event open to the public. The next F4 will take place on February 3rd.

Based on the video series “First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom of God” featuring John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg,  Graeme Sutherland will facilitate discussion each Thursday morning for 7 weeks commencing Jan 12, between 9.30 and 11.00.  There are no pre-requisites, just having some faith questions.  All are welcome.  Topics include Parables as Lures, Jesus as Lord, Substitutionary Atonement?, Demonstrations in Jerusalem, The Crowd and the Crucifixion, Jesus as Resistance, America and the New Rome. Man-to-Man (and friends) helped Montreal City Mission host their annual interfaith party for new immigrants and refugees on Dec 16.    The party was at 741, rue des Seigneurs, Montréal from 5 pm to 8 pm but we planned to be there at 3 pm to set up.  Those coming from the West Island can car pooled at the Cedar Park United parking lot at 2.30 pm.  We helped with set-up decorating, serving, singing, clean-up and generally had fun talking to new immigrants, many from West Africa.  

Please contact Norman Jones for more information and so that we know roughly how many will be assisting.  Any musicians will be especially welcome.

On November 25, from 7:30 – 9:30 pm, the Cedar Park Coffee House got into the spirit of the season. “Christmas is Coming” was the title of the evening, and favourite entertainers and holiday songs were enjoyed by all.  As always, admission was free of charge, with a freewill offering taken for refreshments.

Hear many of your favourite oldies and be prepared to sing along. You won’t be able to stop yourself!

Raheel Raza: The Passion and Politics of Islam

It’s F4 time! The next F4 (Food, Fun and a Film with your Family) will take place on Friday, October 21 at 6pm in the church hall.

Have you already attended an F4 night at Cedar Park United? For a small donation ($4/child 5-16 yrs and $6/adult) you can enjoy a laid-back evening of fun, no matter your family configuration (1 single adult = a family, 2 retirees = a family, 1 parent + 2 kids = a family,  2 grandparents + 3 grandkids = a family…).

At October’s F4, we’ll be showing the classic movie Benji (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071206/) after a delicious homemade  lasagne supper.

Also in preparation for Halloween we’ll be having a Halloween Costume Exchange. In an effort to be environmentally friendly, why not swap Halloween costumes this year instead of getting brand new ones? If you have costumes that your children (or you!) have grown out of, bring them along! You can swap them for a new one! Don’t have one to swap? Just choose one from the selection and toss a donation in the box….

If you can’t make it for 6pm, but still would like to see the movie, feel free to arrive at 6:45. For a $1 /person “popcorn fee” you are more than welcome to just stay for the film.

F4 is a volunteer-run activity and is always looking for helpers, whether to set up the hall, wash the dishes, cut the vegetables or sweep up the popcorn. If you are a person who likes to pitch in and help make things happen, let us know!

A discussion, led by Graeme Sutherland, based on the video series, First Light: Jesus and the Kingdom of God featuring John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg. This Faith Discussion Group runs on Thursdays, October 20 – November 24, 9:30 – 11:00 am in the Church Lounge. All are welcome.
